Title: Part-time School Van Driver

Reports to: School Administration

Department: Transportation

Location: Kayne Eras School

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $20.00 /hr

Program Hours: Monday-Friday 6:00 am-8:30 am OR 2:30 pm -5:00 pm (not a split shift)

Supervisory Responsibility: None

 

Position Summary

To transport students to and from school and other sites within designated route(s) and to ensure the safety of the student passengers while in a Kayne Eras school vehicle. Employees in this classification receive general supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures. This position is responsible for the safe operation of the school vehicle and for ensuring the safety of student passengers while meeting established bus schedules.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Transport students in Kayne Eras School vans safely
  • Transport students & Kayne Eras students/staff on field trips to various locations (as needed)
  • Drives a school transportation vehicle within a prescribed route(s) in accordance with time schedules, picking up and/or dropping off students at designated stops
  • Understand KES Transportation guidelines
  • Have a basic understanding of special-needs kids and their possible behaviors
  • Have the ability to remain calm and focused in the case of distractions
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the vehicle to ensure safe operating conditions
  • Conduct safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicle daily
  • Reports needed mechanical repairs when necessary
  • Be reliable and consistent

 

Other Duties

  • Comply with ECF’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program.  Ensure safe use and operation of tools and/or equipment.
  • Comply with ECF policies and procedures, including mandated reporting requirements.
  • Regular, reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to implement/perform First Aid/CPR/NCI

Qualifications

Education/Licenses/Certifications: High School Diploma

 

Experience: Have held a valid driver’s license for at least three years.

Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:

  • Ability to manage time and work effectively.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to deal appropriately with sensitive and confidential information.

 

Requirements

  • Driving is an essential function of this position. Proof of a valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, evidence of state-mandated car insurance, and an insurable driving record are required. While driving for work, the employee’s insurance is deemed primary, and ECF’s coverage is secondary.
  • Driving Disclaimer - Employees driving for company business must maintain a clean record and operate vehicles safely and responsibly. Company vehicles will be monitored and activity recorded. Violations of the driving policy may result in disciplinary action, including suspension of driving privileges, reassignment, or termination.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid practices, procedures, and techniques
  • Ability to read and write at a level necessary to successfully perform the required duties.
  • Ability to understand and carry out both oral and written instructions in an independent manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain proper student conduct on the school vehicle.
  • Ability to drive a school van safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and extreme caution while driving.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to perform required duties safely and effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
  • Provide evidence of a negative TB test initially and every three years thereafter.

 

Work Environment

This is a school environment for students (K–12th grade) who have varying degrees of learning, behavioral, emotional, and developmental disabilities.  Employees may encounter students who are in crisis, experiencing emotional/psychological distress, or behaving aggressively.  Administrative work will be performed in a separate office.  The environment may include frequent interruptions, loud noise, odors, varying indoor temperatures, and drafts. Outdoor temperature and weather will vary.
